Interview with Ben Jones about his book Island of Strangers: Diversity, Decline and Free Speech in Crisis. Argues Britain has become an ‘Island of Strangers’ due to unprecedented mass migration and the decline of Christianity, which has led to a significant deterioration in free speech, exacerbated by state ‘accommodationism’ that attempts to manage a ‘hyper-diverse’ society by appeasing various groups, often resulting in ‘two-tier policing’. Highlights that freedom of speech is a historically unique Western concept, now threatened by cultural conflicts and elites’ malicious naivety regarding the interchangeability of human values. Critiques the move towards a fragmented ‘society of societies’ where free speech becomes provocation rather than dialogue, and where minorities within minorities are betrayed by a state unwilling to protect their liberal democratic rights.
