Rethinking the Social Underpinnings of Our Daily Decisions feat. Robin Hanson

Interview with Robin Hanson about his book The Elephant in the Brain, co-authored with Kevin Simler. Discusses the discrepancies between what we say and our true intentions; how human interaction within our discussions is less about the content and more about social positioning and signaling; the intricate dance of conversations, where showing status, expressing care, and signaling allyship are at the forefront; and the concept of luxury goods and their role in consumer behavior, challenging the conventional wisdom about why we buy what we buy and the messages we’re really sending with our choices.

This is one of my all-time favourite books. See also the Not Unreasonable and Conversations with Tyler episodes with Robin Hanson.
